Vote delayed on project tied to councilman under investigation

A vote was delayed on a project with a company that is tied to a Charlotte City councilmember under investigation.

The city pulled a $78 million contract on Monday for wastewater treatment plant improvements.

Councilman James Mitchell claims he owns more than 10% of the RJ Leeper, which is behind the project.

Mitchell’s ownership stake is under investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

The city said Charlotte Water requested a vote on the item be deferred until December.
