CMPD: Woman pepper-sprayed man near SouthPark, demanded cash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Mecklenburg Police said a woman attacked a man with pepper spray outside his condominium on Fairview Road and demanded money from him on Tuesday.

Michael Wilson, 30, said the woman hit his pocket where he had the money and told him she would cause a scene if he did not give it to her.

Wilson had recently returned to Charlotte after going to the Super Bowl. He went to an ATM Tuesday near SouthPark Mall and had just returned to his condominium in the 5000 block of Fairview Road when the woman approached him.

When the woman did not get her money right away, she pulled pepper spray from her purse and sprayed him. Wilson tore the pepper spray from the woman's hand and sprayed her. The woman then ran away.

Wilson said the woman was bigger than him and very forceful. Wilson thinks that she could have been working with someone else who was watching him.

Police found a woman they thought was connected to the crime and brought her to the station for a line up. Wilson said that women was not involved.

Police are continuing to look for the woman.

Channel 9 spoke to a woman moving into the condominiums. The woman said she was shocked that this crime would occur in the area. Wilson also said it was a nice subdivision.
