CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — One woman is dead after a fire broke out at a home outside of Lenoir on Friday morning, Caldwell County officials said.
Before 7:30 a.m., emergency crews from six area fire departments responded to the house fire in the 3700 block of Oak Hill Park Circle with reports of a victim trapped inside, authorities said.
Sarah Richardson, a 64-year-old resident of the home, was found dead inside, according to officials.
The sheriff’s office, medical examiner and fire marshal’s office in Caldwell County are investigating the death.
Officials said they believe the fire originated in the living room from smoking materials that were thrown away improperly. The fire was deemed accidental.
