Woman robbed, raped after leaving club wants attackers 'caged like animals'

Police: 2 women attacked and robbed at gunpoint after leaving south Charlotte club

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said two women who left a south Charlotte club this month were robbed at gunpoint.

Officials said they believe two men followed an employee from Club Onyx on Old Pineville Road to her apartment complex on Riverbirch Drive around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

They said the men, armed with guns, broke into the apartment and robbed two women who were inside.

Police said one of the women was moved around the apartment and raped.

Channel 9 spoke with that victim, who we are not identifying.

"I'm feeling a lot of things, you know, like some victims have a lot of self-guilt. Maybe I should not have gone to the club, maybe I should have stayed home,” the victim said.

The woman said she heard the two men talking outside the front door before they busted in.

"So, they're like ‘Do you think you can kick the door down?’ I heard them, and I was like screaming ‘Please don't do that’," she said.

Officials said the victims did not know their attackers.

Police are investigating a similar crime that happened July 14.

They said an employee was leaving Club Onyx to drive to a friend's house when she noticed she was being followed around 5:15 a.m.

Police said when she tried to turn her vehicle around at an apartment complex on Glenbridge Way in Steele Creek, a man got out of the car and robbed her at gunpoint.

Officers addressed the two cases at a news conference Wednesday.

"I cannot say if they spotted the women in the club or just saw them coming out of the club. I'm not sure,” Lt. Muriel Hughes, with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, said.

Police said there have been no arrests in either case. They're asking anyone with information about the crimes to call them.

The victim in Wednesday's attack said she hopes those responsible are brought to justice.

"I want them put behind bars,” she said. “I want them caged like animals. I don't care, because it's not acceptable."
