GASTONIA, N.C. — A woman is in the hospital following a serious crash overnight on Interstate 85 in Gaston County.
Troopers said 20-year-old Riva Mason was traveling southbound on I-85 near Cox Road when she drifted right and hit a guardrail. She then overcorrected and crashed into a tree.
Police said Mason was not wearing her seatbelt and was thrown from the car when it flipped. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators told Channel 9 that speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The ramp to I-85 was closed for about three hours while troopers investigated.
