CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police in Charlotte are looking for the man who broke into an east Charlotte apartment Sunday morning and raped a young mother while her 2-year-old child slept in another room.
The woman told police she was asleep in her second-floor apartment at the Runaway Bay Apartments off Monroe Road when the suspect broke in.
She said he forced her into another bedroom, where he sexually assaulted her.
Police are not releasing details of their investigation, but sources said they are hoping for leads in the case.
The attack shocked neighbors, who had not heard what had happened until Monday.
“I need to know because I work 12-hour shifts,” said Michelle Miller, who has lived in the complex for two years.
Police said the rape appears to be an isolated attack at this point, and there have not been similar crimes in the area.
