Man Struck By Car After Craigslist Deal Goes Wrong

ROCK HILL, S.C.,None — A Craigslist deal turned sour when the buyer paid the seller in fake money and hit him with a car Sunday in Rock Hill.

A 44-year-old Rock Hill man told police he was meeting a man at a pizza restaurant on Cherry Road about 8 p.m. to sell an iPhone 4, which he had advertised on Craigslist online website, according to a Rock Hill police report. A man wearing all black met him and handed him an envelope with what appeared to be money inside.

The man said the suspect began to walk away before he could count the money, the report states. The suspect got into the passenger side of a gold Mitsubishi Montero, and when the man tried to stop them from leaving, they drove off and hit him, knocking the seller to the ground. The man and his wife followed the vehicle but were unable to keep up or write down a tag number.

The envelope contained five fake $100 bills, the report states.

Officers did locate a vehicle matching the description on Cherry Meadow Lane, where a resident said her daughter and grandchild were inside. She refused to allow officers inside, according to the report.
