2 arrested after undercover drug investigation in Huntersville

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Two men were arrested Friday morning after Huntersville police said they concluded an ongoing undercover investigation into the sale of heroin at a home.

Police said a SWAT situation in Huntersville started as they tried to serve a drug warrant early Friday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Lamesa Place and Hambright Road, near exit 23 off of Interstate 77, around 6 a.m.

Officers arrested Thomas Edward Mann Jr., 55, and Brandon Joe Gunter, 24. They said they seized several items including narcotics and paraphernalia.

Someone who lives in the area called Channel 9 and said she heard two bangs and that she saw a lot of smoke. She also said there was an ambulance and several police vehicles on the scene.

Huntersville police said officers were serving a narcotics search warrant at a home on Pacemaker Lane just before 5:30 a.m.

Officials told Channel 9 that SWAT was called to the scene and flash bangs were used. No shots were fired.

A neighbor told Channel 9 that he woke up to the flash bangs and heard police screaming, “Get down, get down.”

Nobody was hurt but there were several children living inside the home which the warrant was being served. Police had removed those children from the house and they were placed inside an ambulance to stay warm.

Mann was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and deliver heroin, maintaining a dwelling for sale of a controlled substance, possession of a schedule III controlled substance, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and conspire to sell and deliver a controlled substance.

Gunter was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and deliver, possession of a schedule I controlled substance, sale of a controlled substance (heroin), two counts of delivery of a controlled substance (heroin), and conspire to sell and deliver a controlled substance.
