CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — The 28th annual National Night Out is a crime a drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. The event across the Charlotte metro area has been scheduled for Aug. 2.
According to the National Night Out website, this is the 28th year for the event worldwide. Over 37 million citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from 15,000 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases across the world participated in last year's event.
First Ward Community/Central Division The First Ward Community Fund and Charlotte Housing Authority will host their annual "Party with the Police" as part of the nation-wide National Night Out celebration. The party will be held in First Ward in the linear park on East Ninth Street (between North Davidson Street and North Alexander Street) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Eastway/Sheffield Neighborhoods The Winterfield Community Garden was selected by BCBS earlier this summer as the Community Garden to kick off their new 100 Gardens/100 Counties Healthier Living Program. The Garden also serves as the science classroom for the students at Winterfield Elementary School. The NNO celebration will start at 6 p.m. and conclude at 8 p.m.
West Boulevard Neighborhood Coalition Between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Arbor Glen Recreation Center at 1520 Clanton Rd, CMPD, Fifth Third Banks, the Mecklenburg County Park and Rec Deparartment and the West Boulevard Neighborhood Coalition will host the National Night Out Event. Events planned include a block party, food, prizes, and music.
Madison Park HOA/Westover Division The National Night Out event at Madison Park will start at 6 p.m. and go until 9 p.m. Target will be giving away bikes at the event.
Davidson The annual crime prevention and community-building event, sponsored by the Davidson Police Department, the Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center and North Meck Crime Stoppers, will take place in Davidson at Roosevelt Wilson Park from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Participants will have the chance to chat with Davidson police officers and other Davidson citizens and enjoy a hamburger or two.
Salisbury The Salisbury Police Department and the Salisbury Parks & Recreation Department will partner with neighborhoods throughout the community to host "National Night Out 2011" events from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Planned festivities vary by location and include a variety of refreshments, games, storytelling, and educational displays. Each location will receive a visit by Police Chief Rory Collins, local police officers, and McGruff the Crime Dog. In addition, the Salisbury Parks & Recreation Department and the Salisbury Fire Department will be on hand and offer activities and demonstrations at various locations.
Cannon Park Celebration: A National Night Out neighborhood event will be held on Tuesday, August 2 at Cannon Park, 600 Park Avenue. The event will take place from 6 pm - 8 pm and will offer games, refreshments, and music. The Downtown Salisbury Cooperative Parish of the United Methodist Church (UMC) is sponsoring the event. Participating churches include Coburn Memorial UMC, Park Avenue UMC, and Main Street UMC.
Laurel Pointe Apartments: A National Night Out neighborhood event will be offered on Tuesday, August 2 for residents of the Laurel Pointe Apartment complex. The event will begin at 6 pm and offer a cookout, pool opening, and activities for children of residents.
Fulton Heights: The Fulton Heights Community will offer an "Eyes on the Neighborhood" awareness contest on Tuesday, August 2, from 7 pm - 9 pm. Residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights to participate. Contest organizers will cruise the neighborhood and award prizes. A National Night Out picnic will be held on Sunday, August 14 for the residents of Fulton Heights.
West End Community: A National Night Out event will be held on Tuesday, August 2 from 6 pm - 8 pm. Activities will take place at Moore's Chapel AME Zion Church, located at 500 Partee Street.
Lincoln Park and Pool: A National Night Out community event will be held on Tuesday, August 2 at Lincoln Pool, 110 Old Concord Road. Festivities will take place from 6 pm - 8 pm and include swimming, games, and youth activities.Grays Chapel: A National Night Out neighborhood event will be held on Tuesday, August 2 at Gray's Chapel Church, 229 South Shaver Street. The celebration, sponsored by the Brooklyn South Square Community Watch neighbors, will take place in the church parking lot from 6 pm - 7:30 pm and offer activities and refreshments.
VA Community Watch Program/Walker Street Celebration: A National Night Out block party will be held on Tuesday, August 2 at the 1400 block of Walker Street. The event, sponsored by members of the VA Community Watch program, will offer entertainment, storytelling, and activities.
Forest Creek Celebration: A National Night Out event will be held on Tuesday, August 2 in the Forest Creek neighborhood in the field at Carpenter's Circle at 6 pm. The event will offer a neighborhood cookout, games, and health information.
China Grove Police Department/Landis Police The event will take place on Main Street in Landis starting at 6 p.m. and continuing until approximately 9 p.m. Numerous games and activities will be available for the community. And organizers are bringing the blood center mobile bank as well as the DWI simulator. There will also be free food and games for the community.
