EMERALD ISLE, N.C. — The body of a teen missing off the North Carolina coast has been recovered.
Emerald Isle police tell news outlets the body of 17-year-old Elijah Hinnant, of Wayne Count, was found Tuesday morning.
Hinnant and his 16-year-old friend, Tyreese Worsley, disappeared in the water Saturday afternoon. Worsley was brought ashore by a surfer and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was listed in critical condition.
Authorities say the boys were at the beach on a day trip.
A fire chief thinks a sandbar may have created the rip currents.
