SHELBY, N.C.,None — Shelby police said a man begged not to be arrested after admitting to police that he was driving drunk.
Police said Chad Arrowood, 37, was stopped by police after almost striking a street sign after making a wide left turn at the intersection of Graham and Washington streets on Tuesday night.
The Shelby Star reported that Officer T.J. Brackeen said Arrowood told him, "Man, please don't do this to me."
The officer said he then asked Arrowood what he was talking about and he responded, "Give me a DUI."
According to Brackeen, Arrowood then told the officer, "I am drunk, let's go," before performing any field sobriety tests.
Police said Arrowood admitted to drinking eight beers and he registered a 0.21 percent on an alcohol breath test, which is above the N.C. legal limit for driving of 0.08.
Brackeen said he asked Arrowood if there were any mechanical problems with the vehicle and he responded, "Me operating it."
Arrowood was jailed, with bail set at $500.
