Police Investigate Shooting, Standoff In Southeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police investigated a shooting and standoff at a Southeast Charlotte apartment complex.

Police from the Providence division responded to a domestic dispute call at 630 North Wendover Road in the Pines at Wendover apartment complex at about 12:30 a.m. Friday.

When officers arrived, they found a female victim with a gunshot wound to the leg and a male suspect.

SWAT officers were called in after the suspect refused to come out of the apartment. The man barricaded himself, along with a child, inside the apartment.

Several people were evacuated from their homes.

The suspect shot and killed himself at some point during the standoff with SWAT officers.

Medic took the victim to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The child was not injured.

Police said the couple was in a relationship and believe an argument may have led to the shooting.

Detectives were investigating the scene and collecting physical evidence.

Residents were allowed to go back to their homes after the standoff ended.
