Police: Man Killed In Restaurant Parking Lot

DENVER, N.C.,None — A 21-year-old man died after an early-morning shooting outside a Denver restaurant, police said.

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Midtown Sundries restaurant on Highway 73. Lincoln County deputies said Richard Miles was shot and killed during a fight among several people.

Miles got into an argument with 24-year-old Jason Eastridge, who has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Miles' death, about football teams, Miles' brother said. When the restaurant closed, the argument spilled over into the parking lot.

"I just came outside and the guy was shooting in the air," Michael Miles, the victim's brother, said.

Michael Miles said Richard started walking toward the suspect, but said he then pinned Richard against a truck. Eastridge fired a shot from his car, Michael Miles said.

"He could have just put it in reverse and left," Michael Miles said.

Investigators said Lee Eastridge left the scene moments after the shooting. He was taken into custody a short time later and charged.

"He was taken way too soon by a senseless act of violence," Alan Jerkins, the victim's father, said.
