SHELBY, N.C.,None — A prominent doctor in Shelby was killed in an accident over the weekend.
The Cleveland County medical examiner said 68-year-old Dr. Michael Miller was on his farm cutting down a tree Saturday night when the chainsaw he was using fell on him.
"You never dream some tragic accident will happen to anyone," said his friend and colleague, Dr. Chris Madison.
Miller started his own practice in Shelby more than 30 years ago, in 1977. He was well known in the area and many said his death will be a great loss to the community.
Madison worked with Miller for 11 years. He called him a true leader, a man of integrity and a great friend.
"You just can't replace someone like Mike Miller again. He was a really special person," Madison said.
Michelle Wesson said Miller saved both of her kids' lives.
"There's no way I can ever thank him enough. There's no way," Wesson said.
"It's more than a great tragedy and to live a life is nothing, but to save a life is to live forever," said Cody Wesson, Michelle's son.
Miller is survived by his wife and two children.
