Shots fired into vehicle led to standoff, deputies say

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies are investigating a shooting that led to a standoff late Wednesday night in Cleveland County.

Authorities said it all began Wednesday when the suspect, Roger Robertson, began following the victim on Battleground Avenue near Kings Mountain Blvd.

Investigators said Robertson got out of his car and fired shots with an assault rifle into the driver's side door while the victim was still inside.

The victim was not hurt, and jumped out of the vehicle, ran into the woods and called 911.

Eventually, authorities responded to a home on Dixon Blvd. just before midnight in an attempt to speak with Robertson, but he would not come out and a standoff ensued.

A total of nine people had to be evacuated from the home before deputies were able to get Robertson out of the house.

Officials expect him to face charges but have not said what those could be.
