SUMTER, S.C. — A sheriff in South Carolina says a 14-year-old has been arrested after threatening two schools.
Sumter County deputies said the threats were serious, but did not appear to be credible.
Still, Sheriff Anthony Dennis was so concerned about them he called in the FBI and is considering an additional charge of domestic terrorism against the teen.
Dennis said in a statement his deputies will always take threats to schools seriously.
Dennis says the teen threatened Hillcrest Middle School and Crestwood High School this week.
The teen is charged with disturbing a school and threatening a school and is being held in a juvenile jail. The teen’s name was not released because of the 14-year-old’s age.
