MOUNTAIN ROAD, S.C. — It took South Carolina rescuers hours to reach a woman who fell down a waterfall while hiking.
News outlets report the woman was at Blue Hole Falls when she fell 50 to 60 feet Saturday.
Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King says rescue crews needed more than two hours to build multiple rope systems to reach the woman. Close to 40 people assisted in the rescue.
When rescuers reached her they discovered she suffered "a significant injury." She was airlifted to a hospital in Greenville. Updated information on the woman's condition was unavailable at the time.
King says hiking to the Blue Hole Falls is easy, but it is dangerous to leave the trail.
