Thanksgiving weekend events, road closures around Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — There are many Thanksgiving-related events happening around Charlotte this holiday weekend, and below are some road closures you can expect to see.

November 23: Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Thanksgiving Day Parade begins on November 23 at 9:30 a.m. at Stonewall Street and South Tryon Street. The parade will continue north on Tryon Street to 9th Street where it will disperse. Event organizers expect 40,000 attendees.

Street Closures:

Hill Street between Tryon and College Streets: Thursday, November 23 at 6 p.m. until Thursday, November 24 at 2 p.m.

Trade Street at the square, Hill Street and Stonewall Street: Thursday, November 23 at 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The parade route (Tryon Street) and cross streets close on route from Morehead Street to 10th Street: Thursday, November 23 at 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Setup for the parade began earlier in the week:

Tryon Street between Morehead and Stonewall Streets: Wednesday, November 22 at 6 p.m. until Thursday, November 23 at 2 p.m.

November 23: Charlotte SouthPark Turkey Trot

The event begins on Thursday, November 23 at 8:30 a.m. on Morrison Boulevard. Event organizers expect 8,000 participants. The one mile run begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by the 8K and 5K. The 8K route includes Morrison Boulevard, Carnegie Boulevard, Barclay Downs Drive, Runnymede Lane, Colony Road, Wheelock Road, Richardson Drive, Ferncliff Road, Sharon Road and Roxborough Road. The 5K route includes Morrison Boulevard, Carnegie Boulevard, Barclay Downs Drive, Runnymede Lane, Colony Road, Roxborough Road and South Park Drive. November 23: Turkey Dash Charlotte

The event begins on Thursday, November 23 at 9 a.m. at Village at Robinson Farms on Williams Pond Road between Elm Lane and Rea Road. Event organizers expect 500 participants. The route starts and finishes at Village at Robinson Farm. The 4-mile run uses Rea Road, Ardrey Kell Road, Blakeney Heath Road and Parks Farm Lane. The 1-mile run uses Rea Road, Williams Pond Lane, Elm Lane, Blakeney Heath Road and Windsor Ridge Road.

November 23: University City Turkey Trot 5K

The event begins on Thursday, November 23 at 8 a.m. at The Fresh Market at 3024 Prosperity Church. Event organizers expect 300 attendees. The route begins and ends at the Mallard Creek Shopping Plaza and uses Prosperity Church Road.
