QUEBEC, Canada — A parenting blogger and author poked fun at strict standards some parents have set for others as of late.
The Huffington Post reported that Bunmi Laditan, who works as an author and primarily writes about her experiences as the mother of a toddler, wrote the post in a tongue-in-cheek response to what she thinks are today's high and outlandish parenting standards.
"My son is watching 'Paw Patrol' while playing with clay and eating strawberries," Laditan wrote. "To previous generations of parents, this would be perfectly fine and look like a darn good Saturday morning."
Laditan, who is an "American in Quebec," went on to list "errors" she made in parenting her son compared to other parents today.
"The strawberries aren't organic and are therefore just fruit-shaped poison bombs. (Watching TV is) scrambling his brain," she wrote. "He should be outside catching butterflies in an organic cotton onesie and $45 baby sandals designed for growing feet. Don't forget to capture the memories on a $500 camera and then edit them in Photoshop before sharing online."
The post has over 17,000 reactions and comments from people across the world.
"I see nothing wrong with this picture," one commenter wrote. "He is increasing his vocabulary and stimulating his imagination with educational age-appropriate TV, and he is eating a fruit without added sugar. Well done."
"We've got so much noise in our ears all the time about how to better parents even though most of us were raised on bologna sandwiches and Tang," Laditan said. "My son's going to enjoy his TV, toxic snack and questionable crafts. It's good enough for us."
