HARTLAND, Wis. — The six people whose bodies were found in the rubble of a Friday morning apartment fire in Wisconsin were each shot before the blaze ignited, local authorities confirmed Monday.
Hartland Police Chief Torin Misko confirmed to WISN-TV that Connor McKisick’s wound was self-inflicted, meaning the deaths are now being investigated as a quintuple murder-suicide.
The other adult found dead was identified as Jessica McKisick. Meanwhile, two 3-year-old boys, as well as a 12 and 14-year-old girl, were also found dead, the TV station reported.
According to The Associated Press, 10 of the remaining tenants in the four-unit building escaped the fire safely.
Hartland is a village of about 9,100 people about 26 miles west of Milwaukee.
Misko also confirmed to WISN that an “ignitable liquid” was discovered in an area it would not normally be found.
Police did not identify the children, but officials at the schools the girls attended confirmed that the older girl was Natalie Kleemeier and her younger sister was Sofina Kleemeier, the AP reported.
