If you plan on hitting the seven seas as soon as cruising resumes, Canada will not be part of the itinerary until at least 2022.
The Canadian government has banned cruise operations through February 2022, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The cruise industry has been hit hard because of the coronavirus pandemic, as embarkations stopped in March 2020.
The ban in Canada had been scheduled to expire this month, but the government has banned cruises for the rest of the year.
The ban applies to ships with 100 or more passengers and does not allow ships with 12 or more people from entering Arctic coastal waters, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The move is expected to have a large impact in Seattle, a city with a billion-dollar cruise season that has been canceled for the second year in a row, KIRO reported.
Any trip going to Alaska must stop in Canada because of the Passenger Vessel Services Act, which regulates ships that are not built in America but which are operated by American companies, requiring them to stop at a foreign port between U.S. ports, KIRO reported.
