Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young announced the arrest of Jean Macean, WFTV reported.

Police said Terry and Brenda Aultman were riding home Sunday morning after a night out when they were attacked about a mile and a half from their house.

Young said Macean confessed to killing the couple while he was in custody Thursday, WFTV reported.

Police said they were stabbed and their necks were slashed. Police said the attack was unprovoked.

Their daughter Sarah spoke during a news conference Thursday night saying that the situation is “a nightmare that I never expected.”

“It doesn’t feel real and I don’t think it’ll ever feel real,” she said, according to WFTV. “I lost my best friend. My mother was the most caring, giving, selfless person in the world. To top it off, she was as funny as can be.”

Terry Aultman worked at Amazon’s fulfillment center in Deltona, Florida. Brenda Aultman worked for Goodwill as an assistant manager at a store in Palm Coast. Both organizations said they will have grief counselors to help co-workers emotionally deal with the couple’s death.

Daytona Beach police had offered a $50,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest.

Macean, who lives in Orlando, was arrested Thursday morning with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Orlando police.

“This was one of the most brutal murders I’ve ever seen in my 20-plus years as a police officer in Daytona Beach,” Young said in a news release, WFTV reported. “We want to thank the entire Daytona Beach community.”
