In this crazy election year, it seems like anything is possible. In a small Michigan town, a deadlocked election was decided by a slip of paper.
Incumbent John Thomas won reelection as the village of Augusta’s president, defeating Village Trustee Heather Bowers, MLive reported. Both candidates received 199 votes, which were certified by Kalamazoo County officials, the website reported. There were four write-in votes, according to the Kalamazoo County Government website.
To decide the election, Kalamazoo County Clerk Tim Snow held a drawing, required by law, on Nov. 6 to determine the winner, WOOD-TV reported.

Thomas drew the “elected” slip and was declared the winner, MLive reported.
Bowers could still request a recount, Snow said, but had not yet as of Wednesday, WOOD reported. She has until Monday to file a request, the television station reported.
