TAMPA, Fla. — What would it be like to live in a home owned by the Boss?

If you have some cash to throw around, George Steinbrenner’s home in Florida is for sale. The asking price has actually been slashed -- the 13,480 square foot, nearly 1-acre estate in Tampa owned by the late New York Yankees owner is selling for $4.4 million, a drop of $1.3 million, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

The house, built in 1958 and renovated in 2001, is one of the largest on the exclusive Palma Ceia Golf course.

Tampa Realtor Toni Everett told the Times that the price of the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom home was lowered because many prospective buyers prefer a more contemporary residence and do not want to sink a lot of cash into renovations. The house was originally listed in May 2019.

“We have had offers, they just haven’t been the right ones,” Everett told the newspaper.

Steinbrenner and his wife, Joan Steinbrenner, bought the home in 2000 for $3.8 million, according to the Times. George Steinbrenner died in 2010, and Joan Steinbrenner lived in the home until her death in 2018, the newspaper reported.

The two-story home also has three half-bathrooms, two elevators and three utility rooms, a pool, library, office and media room, according to Everett’s listing. There are major bedroom suites on both floors, with a kitchenette, bathroom and two walk-in closets on the second floor.

Steinbrenner bought the Yankees in 1973 for nearly $8.8 million. According to Forbes, the franchise is now worth $5 billion tops among major league baseball franchises.
