BATON ROUGE, La. — Videos posted online show a wild surprise at a Louisiana State University dining hall Wednesday evening, when a raccoon came crashing through the ceiling while students were eating.
LSU’s student newspaper, the LSU Reveille, first reported the animal fell into the 459 Dining Hall. Videos show the animal looking confused and trying to get into a backpack.
“All I hear was a raccoon was in the 459,” Danielle Gipson, a freshman, told LSU Reveille. “Everyone is standing up and looking around for it. I went and still got my food because I thought that it was fake. The raccoon then ran underneath my table and I immediately got on top of the chair.”
A video uploaded to TikTok shows a person trying to catch the raccoon with a large plastic trash can, while another person comes up behind the raccoon and hits the animal with a broom.
An LSU freshman, Hannah Accius, described the scene to LSU Reveille saying, “The raccoon was making its way toward me. It stopped and climbed onto my friend Danielle’s bag … A cook even tried to use a basket to catch it. It was a mess.”
Animal control arrived and was eventually able to catch the animal safely, WBRZ reported.
