Uptown Luxury Condos Finally Ready To Sell Units

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Eyewitness News is seeing movement on a major Uptown eyesore.

The project that was supposed to be The Park Condos at East 3rd Street and S. Caldwell Street ran into foreclosure and bankruptcy.

Now, the new owners, Florida-based Small Brothers, is working on the new SKYE Condos and starts selling units Tuesday. Its sales office is in the EpiCentre.

Studios start in the $200,000 range. The penthouses cost more than $2.3 million each.

The building will have 22 stories, 67 condos, and a 172-room Hyatt Place hotel.

Shane McDevitt is one of the people in charge locally. He said, "It's big city stuff. It's the things we see in New York, in Miami, and places like that where you have a hotel mixed with condos and an energy-filled lobby."

Picking up where another company left off has its challenges. Crews are redoing parts to fit their plans, which may make the original goal of finishing by next year's Democratic National Convention a stretch.

Eyewitness News wanted to make sure no inspections are missed since the project has changed hands.

So Eyewitness News checked with Mecklenburg County code enforcement leaders. They said the same inspectors are handling this case, so the process has been seamless.
