CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Water gushed from a broken water main at the corner of Sardis Road North and Monroe Road Sunday night.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were diverting traffic due to the amount of water. Police said crews had a hard time finding the shutoff valve.
Officials said a 20-inch pipe ruptured and the gushing water created a large sinkhole. The break happened at about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Utility crews were trying to locate the break and will remain on scene for several hours. Engineers said no one is without water and water pressure should not be affected.
The water has since been shut off, officials said.
