Woman Tried To Get Restraining Order Against Man Accused Of Shooting Her

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Eyewitness News has learned a Charlotte woman went to extreme lengths to get protection from the man who is accused of shooting her.

Keyonmokin Heath, 37, was shot several times at a Concord gas station on Friday. Police said her ex-boyfriend, Ladrawde Davis, forced her into a car in Charlotte and drove her there, and when she tried to escape, he started shooting.

Heath, an after-school program coordinator for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, even expressed fear that her life was in danger before the incident. She took out a restraining order against Davis on Oct. 4.

Eyewitness News learned that police were called to Heath's home 31 times over the past year and a half. Some of the complaints included vandalism and assault.

"Something should have been done," family friend Corey Harris said.

The restraining order shows Heath tried to do something. In it, she wrote, "I am fearful and I need protection."

The order banned Davis from owning or carrying a gun, but Davis never received the papers. Deputies with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office tried to serve him the paperwork four times at his address, but Davis was never home.

Sheriff's Office officials said deputies do everything they can to track people down. They said eight deputies serve papers daily and they have a 95 percent success rate, but they could not find Davis at the address Heath provided. Officials said they were trying to get more information from her about where they might find her ex-boyfriend.

Family friends said Heath is still in the hospital recovering from the attack.

Concord police are urging anyone with information about Davis's whereabouts to contact them at 704-920-5000.
