A flat tire is a big-time inconvenience – before you can get anywhere, you either have to change it to a spare or call a tow. And even then, you still have to replace the tire with a new one before you can get back to your normal drive time routine. Toyota of N Charlotte is here to help! We have seven tips to help prevent a flat tire in the first place. Check it out!
Learn how to avoid tire trouble with these Charlotte auto service tips
Tip #1: Watch where you drive. An easy way to avoid a flat is to be careful of where you drive! Construction sites are riddled with loose screws and nails, as well as broken glass and shards of metal. Avoid driving in and around them. Also, try to travel on well-maintained roads to steer clear of potholes, which can easily give you a flat tire.
Tip #2: Check your tire pressure regularly. Underinflated tires can actually cause you to get a flat – as they lose pressure, they create more friction with the road and wear more. Keep your tires inflated to the proper PSI at all times (our Charlotte auto service center can help you with that).
Tip #3: Monitor the condition of your tires. If you notice damage to your tires – like uneven wear on the tread, bulges, blisters, or any other physical problems, bring your ride to Toyota of N Charlotte to have the tire examined and fixed. Damaged tires are much more likely to turn into flat tires.
Tip #4: Be on the lookout for recalls. Recalls can keep you informed about possible problems with your tires that can lead to flats or blowouts. Go to the NHTSA’s website and sign up for alerts for your vehicle and its parts!

Tip #5: Buy quality tires. Don’t go cheap on tires – instead, invest in a quality set that will provide you with top performance, durability, and a long life. Buying cheap tires means low quality, and these tires are a lot more likely to have problems.
Tip #6: Try not to overload your vehicle. Your tires have a maximum load rating number on their sidewall – if you exceed it, you run the risk of damaging your tires. Don’t overload them.
Tip #7: Don't depend on your spare. A spare tire is not the same as your regular tires. Spares are meant to be used for short distances, and at low speeds (under 50mph). It's a temporary fix until you can replace your real tire, so don't depend on it to get around. Get to our Charlotte auto service center and get a new tire on your car as soon as possible.
