HSFE WEEK 13: Charlotte Christian routs Christ School, 43-14, for state championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Christian claimed its second state championship in a row with a 43-14 win over Christ School Friday night in Charlotte.

The Knights (11-0) scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to pull away and win the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association Division I title.

Christ School closed to within 16-14 with 6:49 remaining in the second quarter.

Christian took over the rest of the way.

The Knights, the top seed, reached the championship game by defeating Providence Day School, 28-12, in last week’s semifinals.

The Knights are powered by quarterback Garrett Shrader, a Big 22 Player to Watch, who is committed to play football at Mississippi State.

Christian has won 21 games in a row dating back to last season. Its last loss was in the 2017 season-opener, a 19-14 defeat to Charlotte Catholic.

The Knights also beat Christ School 52-12 in last year’s playoffs.

Shrader has passed for 1,666 yards with 19 touchdowns and five interceptions this season, while gaining 479 rushing yards and 12 more scores.

Christ School (10-2) suffered its only other defeat in the second game of the season. The Greenies beat Trinity Christian, 33-32, last week.
