Expect significant congestion on Highway 49 near Lake Wylie/Buster Boyd Bridge from 8:30 p.m. through 11 p.m. on July 4th due to the annual fireworks display. Additional congestion is expected on South Tryon St./NC 49 at Carowinds Blvd. due to the Carowinds fireworks display. After the Lake Wylie show, use these alternate routes to avoid congestion as you return to Charlotte:
- Highway 160 (right) to I-77 North. Stay in the left two lanes to minimize delays near Knights Stadium/Gold Hill Rd./Exit 88 and Carowinds Blvd./Exit 90 as crowds leave the other nearby fireworks shows.
- Steele Creek Rd. (left) to Westinghouse Blvd. (right).
- Choate Circle (a popular cut-thru) will likely be closed to thru-traffic.
Want to park on the Buster Boyd Bridge? Come up with another plan. Drivers will not be permitted to park on the Buster Boyd Bridge.
