HICKORY, N.C. — A new $32 million apartment and commercial complex in Hickory will bring additional development to the Startown section on the city’s south side.
Preston Ridge has already started construction on its first phase, which includes 172 apartments and a commercial building that’s designated for restaurants, retail and service businesses. That phase is scheduled to be open during the summer of 2020.
Developers are collaborating with Catawba Valley Community College, which is located within walking distance to Preston Ridge, for a location for the college’s cosmetology school.
Some of the apartments may also be exclusively reserved for CVCC students, says Garrett Hinshaw, president of Catawba Valley.
