Police said the woman was armed at the time. Detectives said the two men shot her and then took her cellphone and her weapon.

Officials said the woman will survive, but the shooting was troubling for her neighbors.

The Hidden Valley neighborhood has been the focus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney's Community Empowerment initiative. It started almost a year and a half ago as a partnership between CMPD and neighbors.

Police promised to listen to the community and address their concerns. Neighbors said crime has gone down since the initiative began.

The two suspects are facing a number of charges, including attempted murder. They're expected to appear in court for the first time on Monday.
