Action 9 finds out why renters at Charlotte apartments get notices about money being due

CHARLOTTE — Some renters in Little Rock Apartments in west Charlotte are getting letters saying they owe rent and if they don’t pay in 30 days, they’ll face eviction.

Many contacted Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke on Tuesday about the letter.

Starr Williams says she has to pay almost $1,200 by May 12.

“I feel terrible. What am I supposed to do? I don’t have family to take care of me or do this or do that so how am I going to pay that much money?” she said.

Some apparently owe as little as $17 but others owe much more. “I don’t know where I’m going to go if I don’t pay the bill,” a renter who preferred not to be named said.

All over Charlotte there are people with rent due or overdue, but Action 9 doesn’t often hear from groups at the same property all on the same day as it did on Tuesday.

Stoogenke asked Inlivian, which owns the complex, whether something is different involving Little Rock Apartments.

“Inlivian took over the property in November of 2022. What we found at that time was that the previous property manager had not issued any sort of notices, late notices, late fees, or eviction notices. So, we took our time, we audited the books, and now we are coming to a reconciliation, and so that’s what people are seeing today,” Inlivian’s Cheron Porter said.

If you feel you paid all your rent, take your proof to the management office right away so it can compare records.
