CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Virginia father faces an extradition hearing Thursday in uptown Charlotte after police said he took off with his own 4-year-old daughter Wednesday afternoon.
The original AMBER Alert stated the child's guardian was assaulted. The girl was not.
That AMBER Alert out of Virginia was canceled Wednesday night after the girl was found safe in Charlotte, authorities said.
Charlotte police found 4-year-old Kaleya Ketter about 7 p.m. in the 900 block of Highland Mist Lane.
The Virginia State Police and Virginia Missing Children Clearinghouse issued an AMBER Alert Wednesday for her abduction.
Authorities expected the couple accused of abducting the girl would be heading to Charlotte.
Initially, authorities said she was likely abducted by Phillip Alexander Ketter and Love Shariff, according to the AMBER Alert.
Ketter, the girl's father, called 911 Wednesday night and said he had his daughter at the residence and wanted to cooperate with authorities in reference to the AMBER Alert.
The girl was placed in protective custody and Ketter was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Virginia.
Kaleya's family was on its way to Charlotte Wednesday night to get the child.
