DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Rowan County officials are warning people to avoid High Rock Lake on the Davidson County line because of bacteria in the water.

The Davidson County Health Department tested the water after a complaint and found cyanobacteria, which forms as a large growth on the lake bottom.
The bacteria detaches and floats to the surface as thick, black mats.
Health officials said the bacteria has been found in several other lakes across the state.
