Cam Newton signs young fan's jersey after tweet goes viral

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Six-year-old Robbie Rooks got a Carolina Panthers jersey for Christmas that he thought Cam Newton sent.

His aunt videotaped the boy’s reaction and tweeted it, which got 20,000 retweets.

"It was so crazy. My phone was constantly blowing up and blowing up, and I'm just like, ‘Ahh, it's crazy. I never expected it to get that big,’" Robbie’s Aunt Jordan Armstrong said.

But Newton didn’t send it.

The Panthers saw the viral tweet and responded to the aunt’s post.

Newton signed the jersey and added a personal message.

"I was so excited," Robbie said.

The team also tweeted they would like to nominate Robbie’s aunt for “Aunt of the Year.”

Robbie's family, who is originally from Philadelphia, now lives in Texas.

The boy became a Panthers fan after he watched Newton and the team beat the Dallas Cowboys early in the season.

"Keep pounding!" Robbie said.
