CHARLOTTE — The Carolinas will be very well represented on Sunday during Super Bowl LIX, with standouts from Charlotte to Hickory on the field.
Former Mallard Creek star DJ Humphries joined Kansas City this year after eight seasons in Arizona.
He will be joined by fellow Maverick Jordan Davis, who is among several local players on the Eagles roster.
The two graduated from the creek years apart, but Davis told Channel 9 that Humphries played a pivotal role in his success.
“I think it was his third or fourth year in the NFL, and he came back and was talking to me and was like, ‘Do you understand the blessing that you have? Do you understand how far you can go?’ I’ve just been chasing that ever since. When somebody believes in you and you don’t believe in yourself, it can change your life tremendously,” said Davis.
“I remember this guy being a pup, being young, and in college coming back to talk to him, and then fast forward to now he’s the man. First-round draft pick, so it’s so fun to see, said Humphries.
Joining them are Weddington’s own Will Shipley and former South Carolina Caldwell star Landon Dickerson, both with the Eagles.
