CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A teenager from Ballantyne who was lured away from her home by a man she met online, held captive for more than a year, and then rescued, just appeared on “Dr. Phil.”
Channel 9 has followed this heartbreaking case since Hailey Burns was first reported missing in 2016.

The family said the only reason they agreed to be on national television was so Hailey could get help after the unimaginable trauma she experienced.
“The level of therapy she is getting there is not like anything she has experienced before, so she is having a lot of awakenings and a lot of realizations,” said Hailey’s mother Shaunna Burns.
Hailey has been at the treatment facility for five weeks and will be there for likely another month before returning home to Charlotte.
