GREAT FALLS, S.C. — A well-known Chester County business owner has been reported missing by his family. They last heard from Doug Sumner, 52, of Great Falls on Oct. 21.
Sumner owns Sumner's Deli and Grocery on Highway 21 just south of Great Falls. Employees working there on Monday told Channel 9 that he checks in two, three or four times a week. They thought it was very strange to not hear from him.
Amy Parker is Sumner's cousin and grew up with him.
"Something's happened. I don't feel good about it," she said.
She last spoke to him on Facebook messenger when he told her he had an appointment with his bank on Monday. She also heard he may have gone to Lancaster to help a friend move. Family members have tried to call his cellphone, but it goes directly to voicemail.
"He's well-known in Great Falls. Everybody knows him. He tries to help people all the time," she said.
Sumner was last seen leaving his home on Angel Drive off Highway 21. He was driving his black 2014 Dodge Ram with a South Carolina tag – DGI 353.
Family members are also concerned because they said he needed daily medication. Channel 9 also tried to speak to Sumner's parents. They said they believe police are doing all they can to find him.
The store Sumner owns is in Chester County, but his home is just inside the Fairfield County line. Fairfield County sheriff's deputies have been out to the family's home where Sumner lived in another home on the same property as his parents. Family members said he's single and does not have any children.
Deputies have questioned several people, but so far, there are no answers about his whereabouts.
