CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Dedicated church members will be working furiously for the next two weeks to renovate this home to accommodate a father shot at an area rest stop.
Gregory McKee is paralyzed from the waist down after the violent attack Saturday night.
Two men tried to rob him while he was washing his hands at the rest stop on Interstate 85 in Cabarrus County. McKee ran and was shot.

Officials with the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office said Darren Tyron Manuel, 26, of Charlotte was arrested and charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Police are looking for the second man in connection with the shooting.
Church members are retrofitting Gregory McKee's home and bringing Terrie McKee a wheelchair for her husband.
"I am fearful, but I choose not to give in to that fear," Terrie McKee said.
She said her husband's story may be tragic but there's good coming out of it.
"There's still hope in our communities," the wife said. "There is still hope in people."
Volunteers said they are still looking for donations of ceramic tiles and flooring to complete the McKees' home before Greg McKee leaves rehab.
Terrie McKee shared a photo on Facebook of Greg in his wheelchair and said he's dedicated to learning how to live out his new life.
