CMPD hosts toy giveaway in holiday tradition dating back nearly 50 years

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police hosted their annual Explorer Christmas Project ceremony and delivery.

Officers were out delivering toys Wednesday morning to hundreds of families in need, and Channel 9′s Almiya White was there for the special moments.

“It’s amazing to see we are able to help that many families,” CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings said.

CMPD and the CMPD Police Explorers have been collaborating with the community since 1974 to provide gifts to Charlotte families during the holidays.
