CMPD: Man dies after fight at west Charlotte apartment complex

CHARLOTTE — A man died after a fight Wednesday night at a west Charlotte apartment complex, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

The incident took place just after 8:30 p.m. at the apartments on Forestbrook Drive near Tuckaseegee Road.

CMPD Maj. Dave Johnson told Channel 9 that police went to an apartment there after they received a call about a medical emergency.

When they arrived, they found a man who had been physically injured. Detectives learned he had gotten into a fight earlier in the parking lot. They learned he left the fight, went home, and began complaining about chest pains.

He was then taken to an area hospital, where he fell unconscious and later died.

Police said they are following leads and are speaking with any witnesses in the area.

Detectives have not yet shared the victim’s name. A police report says the victim was a 31-year-old man.

Johnson said though shots were fired in the area after officers arrived at the scene, that shooting was not involved in this case.

Now, police are trying to track down any video that might help find a suspect. They were working to comb through the area where the fight happened as well as the apartment where the man was found.

Anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS.
