CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is seeking help from the public in finding a man they think has been involved in “suspicious activity” around school bus stops in the south Charlotte area.
CMPD reported that the incident happened around 3 p.m. on Friday.
Detectives described the man as a heavy-set, middle-aged, bald Hispanic male who has been reported driving past school bus stops and engaging with middle-school-aged girls. The man is also believed to be driving a light blue, gray sedan and possibly a Tesla.
Channel 9′s veteran crime reporter Glenn Counts went to south Charlotte to speak with parents about the situation.
“It worries me because I have a 5-year-old granddaughter that rides the bus, so that is very concerning being that it’s in our area,” grandparent Yvonna Griffin said.
Cozzette Duggar, a parent to several boys, said the situation has her worried too.
“It’s all the same to me, safety is safety. If somebody is out there, looking for little girls they could be out there looking for little boys, that’s scary,” said Duggar.
Parents told Counts that this case has them feeling like it’s time to talk to their kids again about stranger danger.
CMPD, the Pineville Police Department, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Police Department are all working together in the investigation.
Anyone with information on these instances or the man’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.
