Police said around 2 p.m. the suspect led them on a mile-long chase from Highway 321 at Davidson Street to Glenn and Essex streets, where he ditched his car and ran into the woods.

Channel 9's Greg Suskin was the first on the scene and captured exclusive video of the suspect being brought out of the woods after being captured by police.

Jay Vernon lives nearby and said he witnessed the entire thing.

He told Suskin he was concerned about the three kids inside his home when he saw the man running into the woods.

"I heard sirens and I came jumping out, as soon as I can, and then as soon as I did I saw this red car pull up and stop, and I saw a few more cops cars come, they stopped, and he started running. He jumped out of his car so quick and started running across the field," said Vernon.

Police said they used a Taser on the man while trying to take him into custody. He was taken to a hospital to treat a cut on his hand he got while trying to hop a fence.

Channel 9 learned the chase and arrest happened after a tip from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, but officials have not said what attempted murder the man may be connected to.
