CMS teacher accused of indecent liberties with student, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — Police charged a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teacher with taking indecent liberties with a 16-year-old student.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives said on Tuesday, school resource officers at Harding University High School told them about a “potential inappropriate relationship” between 24-year-old Jasmine Wooten and a teenage student.

Wooten is a social studies teacher at the high school.

The affidavit alleges the school athletic trainer overhearing a conversation between the 16-year-old and another student. He allegedly told that student he had sexually engaged with a teacher and identified Wooten as the teacher he had been with.

Detectives spoke with the teenager and later interviewed Wooten. The two told police they had kissed, and Wooten also admitted to responding to explicit messages.

Wooten was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony taking indecent liberties with a student.

“It is wild, I’m not going to lie. At Harding High School, you feel me? Shake my head,” one Harding student told Channel 9′s Joe Bruno.

CMS told Channel 9 that Wooten was hired in 2022 and is currently suspended with pay. The district is not commenting on her arrest.

It’s worth noting there are actually two teachers at Harding named Jasmine Wooten. The other one teaches English and is a previous Teacher of the Year.
