Construction begins on southwest Charlotte bridge replacement project

CHARLOTTE — A nearly $7 million bridge replacement project has closed a section of Shopton Road over Coffey Creek in southwest Charlotte.

The new bridge will be 135 feet long with three 11-foot lanes, along with sidewalks on both sides.

Drivers will detour onto Steele Creek Road, merge onto Interstate 485 to Tryon Street before returning to Shopton Road.

The road is scheduled to reopen by summer 2027.
