DASH CAM VIDEO: Police chase, shootout in York County

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Channel 9 obtained dash cam video of a chase through York County in June that officials said ended in a shootout between a trooper and a suspect.

At the end of the chase, Trooper Paul Wise’s cruiser came to a screeching halt and the suspect jumped out.

Willie Wright could be seen shooting at Wise, but instead of normal rounds, Wright's gun was reportedly loaded with “cop-killer” rounds.

Those rounds can reportedly penetrate ballistic vests, officials said.

Wise tried to stop Wright, who was driving a BMW, June 12 because of a seat belt violation.

The chase ended on India Hook Road in Rock Hill where the video shows Wright opening fire.

A round pierced Wise's cruiser’s windshield and hit Wise, but he survived, fired back and apprehended Wright, officials said.

Wright had recently been released from prison before the shootout.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Wise is back on the force and cleared to patrol again.
