CHARLOTTE — As millions of people are seeking refuge outside of Ukraine’s borders, Dr. Robert Lim willingly entered the war zone this month to help families who stayed behind.
“When Russia invaded Ukraine, I felt the pull to go to go help out,” Lim said.
The Davidson College alumnus is now a medical professor at the University of Oklahoma.
Lim said he has served six deployments as an U.S. Army surgeon in Afghanistan and Iraq.
He said the trip reminded him of when he went to the Ukraine where adopted his daughter 10 years ago.
“It was really serendipitous in that regard. Had an opportunity with this group, just because of my previous military experience. I thought that a good skill set to help out and being clinically still active. Surgically,” Lim said.
