ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — A Hickory man faces DWI and resisting arrest charges after he told North Carolina state troopers he had hand grenades and an AK-47 following a car crash, authorities said.
The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office said 33-year-old Michael Kennedy was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle involved in a crash Sunday on Highway 127 at Telephone Exchange Road near the little town of Bethlehem.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that Kennedy refused to show his hands to state troopers and told them he had hand grenades and an AK-47 when asked if he had any weapons on him. The Sheriff’s Office did not report finding any such weapons after deputies reportedly had to pull Kennedy from the car.
Kennedy was booked into the Alexander County Detention Center on a $3,000 secured bond, charged with DWI-drugs and resisting arrest.
His first appearance in Alexander County District Court is set for May 6.
